Inspired by the '90s and Y2K, this festive and nostalgic trend has reinvigorated the fashion world with a new dose of whimsical energy. With a sense of child-like innocence and flare, after 2 years of uncertainty, these fun and smile-inducing charms are just what we need to bring bright colours and fun hues into our day-to-day dressing.
The trend was re-introduced by Lisa Sahakian from Ian Charms during the summer of 2021 when she received a request from her boyfriend for a one-of-a-kind birthday necklace. She loved it so much that she soon made one for herself with friends and family following and soon after the trend caught on and celebs like Justin Bieber and Dua Lipa could be seen styling these sentimental pieces as part of their everyday wardrobe.
Major fashion houses like Balenciaga have also caught onto this trend and have created their own branded versions, but it is no secret that the trend was initiated by smaller jewellery brands like our very own South African Beaded Necklace brand Laeh, which started the trend by creating hand-made and nostalgic, customisable pieces for friends and family.
Styling tip: ‘Bring some joy into your wardrobe by wearing these fun pieces with a crisp cotton shirt dress for an effortless day to evening look, or for a bolder statement – pair with bright hues from our Shades of Summer.Edit’
